LKE 3.9 || Creating Through the Veil with Lillian Blades: An Audio Mosaic

from Loving Kindness Everyday · host Kindness Calloway

In this episode of Loving Kindness Everyday, Kindness Calloway sits down with acclaimed Bahamian-born artist Lillian Blades for a calming and detailed conversation that feels like one of her assemblages—layered, reflective, and deeply personal. Born in Nassau, Bahamas in 1973 and now based in Atlanta, GA, Lillian Blades is celebrated for her large-scale mixed media assemblages inspired by her island upbringing, her West African ancestry, and the legacy of her late mother. She holds a BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), an MFA from Georgia State University (GSU), and has studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture as well as Caversham in South Africa. Her public commissions include works for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and The East Atlanta Library, and her pieces are held in collections such as the Birmingham Museum of Art and The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas. In our time together, Lillian shares in her own words how her process unfolds—weaving both found and constructed materials into luminous veils of art that evoke Memory, Spirituality, and Connection. Lillian reflects on the influences of her childhood home, her cultural identity, and the path that led to her solo museum exhibition Through the Veil (Sarasota Art Museum, 2025). This conversation is not just about art—it is about heritage, artistry, and the power of creation. Sit with us as Lillian Blades talks us through her world of creation her process and the opens up about the journey behind her work and the spirit that continues to guide it.

Running In Slow Motion with Sidney & Tamra Smith You Hear Good Things podcast network Comedian Sidney Smith and his wife Tamra — a sharp-witted educator with a soft spot for flowers — team up to navigate life, goals, and culture at their own hilarious, at times, in-depth pace. They call it “running in slow motion,” and that pretty much sums up the vibe. This isn’t a marriage podcast (their union ranks a generous 5 out of 10, after all), but it is a refreshingly honest, smart, and funny take on relationships, ambition, and everyday chaos. From real talk to pop culture and unexpected interviews, it’s a joyride of relatable moments and laugh-out-loud observations. Explicit What You Thought ? Think of it as a functional drunk, except we could fail a sobriety field test sober. They discuss the bigger news offbeat news stories of the week, but also the hard hitting stuff like, “When someone has multiple children at once, twins, triplets, etc., who is the planned child, and who is the accident child?”. They also make fun of people who can’t seem to get out of their own way in life, and bust each other’s balls along the way. If you yourself feel like a functional idiot waltzing through life, then this is the perfect podcast for you! The Functional Idiots Podcast, the dumbest two hours in podcasting! Explicit
