Local Business Spotlight: Annapolis Makerspace

This week, we sit down with Tony Aquilino of Annapolis Makerspace, a community workshop on Hudson Street where members have access to everything from traditional woodworking equipment to 3D printers, laser engravers, and CNC machines. Aquilino describes it as a "gym membership except for tools," but the real value may be the community of makers who share their skills, help solve problems, and teach one another along the way. We talk about the incredible variety of projects that come through the shop, including restoring a generations-old rocking chair, building sailboat parts, creating one-of-a-kind gifts and prototyping equipment for Chesapeake Bay research. We also talk about how Annapolis Makerspace stepped up to produce thousands of PPE face shields during COVID, the growing mix of traditional craftsmanship and new technology, and how someone with an idea—but not necessarily the tools or know-how—can get started.
