Local Business Spotlight: Holmatro

Today's Local Business Spotlight will be filed under the "Who knew?" section. Homaltro may not be a household name unless you are a member of the first responder world, but their North American headquarters are based right here in Anne Arundel County! And for those NOT in the first responder world, listen up as we speak with Shelly Elliott, the president of the company that may save your life someday! Homaltro makes hydraulic rescue tools. You've seen them tearing apart cars to get to a crash victim. But they are a lot more than that. In addition to the "standard" rescue tools, they manufacture tools for police officers to open doors without placing themselves in danger, air bags to lift portions of a collapsed building, jacks and rams to lift heavy loads, and a few others as well. They serve fire departments, police departments, the military, and Indy car racing. The tools are researched, designed, manufactured, tested, and shipped from their headquarters, which takes raw steel and produces lifesaving tools. Generally, the tools are sold through a distributor network, but the headquarters offers training, and repairs.
