Local Impacts If NEA Is Defunded

from KBUT · host KBUT

A proposal from the White House to defund the National Endowment For The Arts would have local impacts to the arts community in Gunnison County. The Crested Butte Music Festival uses an NEA grant for some of its free programming and to reduce tuition for the Opera Children's Chorus, of which about half helps local students. The Crested Butte Creative District is funded through Colorado Creative Industries, who receives 1/3 of its funding from the NEA. The Creative District helps fund public arts projects made by local artists in the town. The future of the funding for the NEA is uncertain.
