Local Private Water Group Schemes among a number identified as having E.coli failures

The Environmental Protection Agency says there's an urgent need for mandatory registration of private drinking water supplies. A number of local private group schemes have been identified as having E coli failures in 2024, while some have unresolved issues from 2023.  The schemes mentioned in the latest report include those at Carrowdargney, Keelouges, Castlegrange, Gurteen Clonmore and Liskeavy.  It's raising concerns that many private supplies are not registered - despite serving schools, nursing homes, sports clubs and self-catering accommodation.  The EPA's Noel Byrne is Programme Manager of the Drinking Water and Wastewater Enforcement team - he says everyone has a right to safe drinking water, and supplies that aren't registered, aren't being monitored:
