Local Selection 296: OneCanChan

This week’s entry to the Local Selection Mix comes from OneCanChan, who delivers an hour of chugging, Italo-kissed, acid-drenched jackin’ house, an invitation into their expansive, dancefloor-driven world. A Dublin-based DJ with Chinese roots, OneCanChan’s musical aesthetic is shaped by years spent working in record stores, digging deep across prog house, acid, breaks, and global sounds. They also co-run Shimmer Dublin, an open DJ and arts collective fostering community and creativity in the city. They’ve performed alongside some of Ireland’s most respected collectives, including Foxgluv, HONEYPOT, and Club Comfort, and their mixes have reached both local and international airwaves. Appearances include Dublin Digital Radio, Refuge Radio Berlin, and The Cosmic Cast in Naarm. Recent highlights see them opening the White Claw stage at Electric Picnic, supporting Kapote and Cody Currie for Toy Tonics’ first Dublin jam, and sharing bills with Moving Still and Coy Haste (Caribou). Their Local Selection contribution stays true to this all-encompassing approach, expertly sewing together slippery acid cuts, deep and lurching prog-leaning grooves, and dusky Italo-disco rhythms. It’s a mix that resists introspection in favour of pure physicality, an hour that belongs entirely to the dancefloor.
