Gilbert attended Stetson University, where he became a standout player on the school's baseball team. In his sophomore year, he led the team in wins and strikeouts and was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Year. In 2018, Gilbert was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft. He began his professional career in 2019 with the West Virginia Power, a Single-A affiliate of the Mariners, before being promoted to the Arkansas Travelers, a Double-A team, later that same year. Gilbert made his MLB debut on May 13, 2021, pitching against the Cleveland Indians. He finished his rookie season with a 6-5 record, a 4.68 ERA, and 128 strikeouts in 24 starts. Despite being relatively new to the league, Gilbert has already established himself as a promising young talent with the potential to become a top-tier pitcher.
