Recently, NC State head coach Will Wade became involved in a controversy surrounding the use of a retro NC State logo on the team’s uniforms. After an 88-68 win over Syracuse alst night in which the Wolfpack wore throwback “STATE” jerseys, Wade mentioned publicly that the university’s branding office had sent a strongly worded email saying the logo did not comply with current brand guidelines. As the situation escalated, Wade later apologized for his remarks, clarified that the branding employees were simply doing their jobs, and asked fans to stop directing anger at them on social media. What is going on? Duke University and quarterback Darian Mensah were involved in a legal dispute after Mensah decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal despite having a multi-year NIL contract with Duke. The university argued that the contract restricted him from enrolling or playing at another school while it was still in effect and filed a lawsuit to enforce it, even obtaining a temporary restraining order that blocked his transfer. Before the case went any further, however, both sides reached a settlement. The agreement ended the lawsuit and cleared the way for Mensah to transfer to another program, widely reported to be Miami.
