London-based priest will be Archbishop of war-torn Mosul post-ISIS

The chaplain of the Syriac Catholic community in Great Britain, Monsignor Nizar Semaan has been chosen to be Archbishop Co-adjutor of the war-torn city of Mosul in Iraq. As Co-adjutor Archbishop, Mgr Semaan will succeed the current incumbent in due course. During the ISIS occupation of northern Iraq, many Christians fleed the war-zone fearing for their lives. Recovery and reconstruction are just two of the major challenges Mgr Semaan faces. "It's not easy - it's a mission with lots of challenges waiting for me. I think the only thing I need is prayer. I'm sure that if God has chosen me for this kind of service He will be with me and guide me to help our Christian people in Iraq who have suffered persecution for many years. "When ISIS occupied our cities they destroyed everything. I was in Iraq two months ago and I saw the churches, monasteries, hospitals, schools - everything has been destroyed. So there are challenges but I accept it as a gift from God. I will go there - God is taking my hand to go back to Iraq.
