Look At Me! Look At Me! | Soli Deo Gloria | Acts 12:18-25 | w/ Joshua Sanders
from Christ Community Church (Brazil, IN) · host mycccbrazil
Have you ever met someone who just had to get credit for everything, no matter how small? Now... How often are we the very ones that want all the credit? Maybe at work, when something goes wrong, and we’re the ones who find the solution, we make sure to tell everyone about it a few times—just so they know we saved the day! Or maybe we’re at work, and someone compliments an idea that ended up working really well, and we just can’t resist mentioning, "Yeah, I thought of that!" even if it was only part of the idea. This idea of craving recognition and seeking glory is pretty common, but what happens when someone takes it too far, wanting to be worshiped like a god? In this sermon, we conclude Acts 12 by going through verses 18-25. In this passage, we continue to hear about Herod, who desired to receive all the glory all the time. In this passage, Herod’s focus shifts back to asserting his authority. We find him in Caesarea, where he settles a dispute with the people of Tyre and Sidon, and they come to Herod with flattery and praise, seeking to appease him. But in this moment, instead of humbly redirecting their praise, Herod does the opposite—he soaks it up. And this is where we meet the heart of the issue in our passage... All glory belongs to God alone.
