Looking back your way forward

There is a disconnect between the new generation and the past generation. Without meaning to, we look at their experiences as meaningless, absurd, or a “lack of maturity.” When they stumble, when they’ve been betrayed, when the girl who used to like them suddenly says she doesn’t want anything to do with them anymore… for no apparent reason… We tell them, “That’s nothing… it always happens… it’s not a big deal.” I used to hate when they told me: “You’ll get over it,” “We all go through that,” “Don’t give it too much thought.” Without realizing it, we lose the sensitivity of who we are because of who we’ve become… and the young people show it in their faces, in their distress. And our lack of empathy creates a distance between you and me. Because what you’re telling me to do doesn’t make sense: “trust,” “hang in there,” “enjoy this stage of your life.” Existe una desconexión entre la nueva generación y la pasada generación. Sin querer miramos sus experiencias como sin sentido, disparatadas o “falta de madurez”. Cuando tropiezan, recibieron una traición, la joven que antes les gustaba les dice ya no quiero nada contigo, sin razón alguna… Le decimos eso no es nada… siempre pasa… “no es para tanto” Yo odiaba cuando me decían: “se te va a pasar” “todos pasamos por eso” “no le des mente a eso” Sin querer, perdemos la sensibilidad de quienes somos por quienes nos hemos convertido…  y los jóvenes se les ve la cara de angustia, y nuestra falta de empatía crea una distancia entre tu y yo. Porque lo que me dices que haga, no tiene sentido; “confía” “aguanta” “gózate y disfruta tu etapa”
