Loras College Single Season Saves Leader: The Ice Man, Tyler Tomaka
from Dubuque Area Sports Podcast · host Nick Maneman
You would think Tyler Tomaka would have been a stud in high school, but the reality is he was not. Tyler was a catcher who barley hit 200 in high school and wanted to go to Loras because they accepted everyone. Tyler walked on at Loras and could not sniff the field. Tyler played JV at Loras and almost gave up the game. After an inspiring conversation with his dad Tyler decided to give it another go. One day at a JV practice, Tyler decided to jump on the mound. Head Coach Carl Tebon and Assistant Coach Nate Roling just so happened to be walking through JV practice to hear the pop of the glove. A meeting in Coach Tebon's office led Tyler to making the varsity team as a pitcher. Tyler put in the work and went on to make a name for himself as a closer at Loras College. Years later, Tyler is still hanging around in the game. He shares stories about the ups and downs of playing professional baseball. Jump on the bus and enjoy this journey of struggles and triumphs.
