Lord Save Me - Fr. Micah - August 22, 2021
from Holy Trinity + Holy Cross - Sermons · host Holy Trinity + Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral
Today’s Gospel taken from Matthew 14:22-34 accounts for us the well-known miracles of Jesus and Peter walking on water. Peter is obedient to Christ’s call and in faith steps out of the boat to meet Our Lord on the water, but becomes distracted by the wind and begins to sink. In his moment of helplessness, he calls out to Christ, “Lord, save me’, who immediately reaches out His hand and brings Peter into the boat. In our own lives there have been moments when we have called out to Christ, “Lord save me” and we feel His touch, while at other times we do not feel Him at all. Father Micah shares with us that if we want to stay close enough to Christ to feel His touch we must be like Peter, who lived his life in obedience to Christs’ call and in faith entrusted himself to His divine care. To acquire the faith and obedience needed to walk on water we must pray the name of Jesus during our daily routines and allow this prayer to be the axis on which our lives revolve.
