Lost In Translation

from The common denominator podcast · host Robert Leizear

Over the last few years, a phrase has been echoing in my head: Lost in Translation. We live in a time with the most advanced communication infrastructure in human history. We have 24-hour news networks, pocket-sized supercomputers, podcasts, press briefings, algorithms, and endless panel discussions. Yet, when you listen to the people running the country—politicians from every side of the aisle, mainstream media talking heads, celebrity economists, elite figures—and then look at your bank account, there is a total communication blackout. The signals aren't crossing. The lived reality of the working and middle class is getting intercepted, scrubbed, and broadcast back to us as something completely unrecognizable. Why does it feel this way? Because there is a profound difference between data and digestibility.
