But what does it really mean? Basketball has been an all-consuming passion for Bobby Martin for the better part of his life. Born and raised during the height of mob rule and the heroin and crack epidemics in Atlantic City, Basketball was Martin’s ticket to the great wide world. A high school All-American, he was a centerpiece of the top recruiting class in the nation when he signed with the University of Pittsburgh, where he played in the late 80s and early 90s. Once viewed as a sure-fire NBAer, Martin just missed on making The League after an injury-plagued senior year. He then began a journey of growth, exploration, reinvention and rebounding, which included nearly two decades as a professional overseas before returning stateside to begin coaching the next generation of players. In this series, Martin and Perkins will discuss the intersection of life and hoops.
