A baseball star in high school who looked destined for the Majors, a devastating arm injury ended what looked like a professional career in the making. After being robbed of his first love, St. John dedicated himself to basketball far later than most players, but willed and worked his way to a Division I scholarship. After four years as a starter at La Salle, St. John embarked on a professional basketball career that spanned more than a decade and took him to more than 20 countries. Still in his prime, St. John once again had his sports career ended by heartbreaking medical news: a life-threatening heart condition. After returning to his hometown to pick up the pieces, St. John picked himself back up and dedicated himself to helping the next generation of young players as a coach.
