Lost in Translation Episode 16 - Mark Flavin

from WCTV Podcasting · host WCTV

Poverty, domestic violence, a non-existent father, and a mother caught in the throes of addiction, Mark Flavin experienced it all growing up in public housing in Weymouth, Massachusetts, and seemed like a kid destined to never make it further than back alleys and vacant lots. But thanks to basketball and an incredible surrogate family that took him in, Flavin made it out of his hometown, earning a Division I scholarship, grabbing all-conference honors and embarking on a globetrotting career as a pro hooper. It wasn’t always easy – Flavin struggled at times to adjust in college, and dealt with the heartbreak of losing his best friend to suicide – but throughout his journey, he has embodied the saying “use basketball; don’t let basketball use you.” Now a successful business owner, loving father and husband after retiring for hoops, Flavin sat down to talk about his journey and the pursuit of happiness and success.
