Louise Celia Fleming (1862-1899) & Mary Eliza Mahoney (1845-1926): In connection with last week’s look at the first African American woman doctors, today we will be talking about the first African American woman missionary doctor, as well as the first African American nurse! Woven throughout all these remarkable lives, we find a common thread of kindness and courage in the face of impossible obstacles and opposition.
