Hay had a difficult start to life, as she was abused as a child and gave her own child up for adoption at the young age of 16.  Her career began when she started studying the power of positive thought at First Church of Religious Science. She went on to teach the power of affirmation by going as far as healing herself of cancer through affirmation alone. She has since authored many books, such as "You Can Heal Your Life" and "The Power Is Within You."
