Louisiana Leads Nation in Reading Growth as Math Scores Climb

Louisiana is seeing major growth in student learning. State education leaders said Louisiana now ranks first in the nation for reading growth and second for math growth in the 2026 Education Recovery Scorecard. The state is also the only one to outperform pre-COVID academic levels. Education officials said the success comes from a focused strategy that supports students, teachers, school leaders, and families. Teams work directly with schools across Louisiana, providing training and classroom support. More than 2,000 school and district visits happened this school year. Leaders stressed that family involvement matters. Reading with children, having conversations, limiting screen time, and using everyday moments to build math skills can strengthen learning at home. Officials said the long-term goal remains consistent instruction and giving every student the support needed to succeed.
