Healing & the Post-Tragic World with Alexander Love
from The Aesclepion
What happens when tragedy shatters our understanding of the world—and what becomes possible when we stop trying to explain our pain away? In this episode of the Aesclepion, I sit down with Alexander Love for a wide-ranging exploration of suffering, forgiveness, human nature, and the unfolding of consciousness. Alexander introduces the distinction between the anatragic, tragic, and post-tragic worldviews: the movement from seeking certainty to protect ourselves from suffering, through the disillusionment that breaks those structures apart, toward a deeper capacity to embrace life from a place of radical wholeness. At the heart of the conversation is an extraordinary story. At twenty years old, Alexander learned that his father had been murdered. Decades later, he entered into a series of restorative justice dialogues with Herbert, the man who pulled the trigger. Their relationship raises an important question: How do we heal and find forgiveness, especially after unimaginable pain and loss? Alexander explains how parts work—including Internal Family Systems (IFS)—can help us meet the conflicting aspects of ourselves with greater wholeness, by transforming patterns of inner conflict. We also begin to un-pack Terri O’Fallon’s developmental stages model and ask what developmental literacy makes possible.
