To honor this historic occasion, we’re diving deep into the true culinary arts of incarceration. We discuss legendary prison recipes made from crushed ramen, questionable cheese packets, pickles, and pure desperation. Somewhere between “spread” recipes and honey bun sandwiches, we realized inmates are basically competing on an underground version of Top Chef: Commissary Edition. We also take a fascinating and mildly horrifying journey into the world of prison hooch — the homemade alcohol brewed with fruit cocktail, ketchup packets, bread, and enough patience to violate several health codes simultaneously.
