“Love is Lopsided”

from Capital Church Messages · host Troy Champ

Research shows women and men both consider symmetrical faces beautiful and attractive. They prefer romantic partners with symmetrical faces, and they’re more inclined to develop personal and professional friendships with those with symmetrical faces as well. So, most people prefer to engage with those who have symmetrical bodies. Yet, there is one thing we all desire, even need, to be embodied in asymmetrical ways: Love. We don’t want balanced love. We want love unleashed, love unhinged, love unrestricted and overflowing. We need unbalanced, asymmetrical love most in the moments we deserve it least. This week in The Life and Lyrics of David, we see Israel’s future King – and Israel’s true King, Jesus! – pouring out love in unfair, asymmetrical ways that we are called to embody in our relationships today.
