TRANSCRIPT · AUTO-GENERATED

Hey, over 25 years ago on September 29th, 1998, we watched a brainy girl curly hair drop everything to follow a guy She only kind of knew to college my name is Amanda Forman though Maybe you know me better as Megan Rotundi the roommate with the mysterious box I'm teaming up with my Felicity husband Greg Grunderg and the ringers do yet Let them to revisit our favorite moments from the show and talk to the people who helped shape it 3 watch begins on March 13 listen now to dear Felicity on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts I'm John Fessy and this is a big trick conversation show about love sex and death later in this episode I'll be joined by Roseblassy English filmmaker by one of the years most exciting new movies love lies bleeding Every short period of time glasses emerged as a rising star in the world of genre filmmaking I hold this around for our conversation we will talk about her movie literally in the episodes Well, it's what's up on news a lot of strange vibe while we were we had our head in the Oscar clouds You know we were thinking about last Sunday's great event We were chopping up about a few drawers. We forgotten about what's coming for us It's just like so many good movies in the next 24 months I'm really excited about in the next 24 months as opposed to the next 12 months all of the news that we're back to the skies is a 2025 and later so we're just looking for the red, you know Tuesday that's how the Joe was like short-term future and this is our long-term future in our big dreams Are you excited about all these films that I listed here as I am? Well, I decided about three four and I guess everything I just had applies to three of four of these I believe There's one twenty five Yes, which is like really funny Yeah, I'll laugh What's our thing is that earlier this week there was some shifting in the one about scheduling the probably the biggest title that moved was the That into the twenty six but along with that a bunch of other films got dated and the PTA movie Which we talked about briefly in the last the most recent episode out You know what are not twenty five will be his Oscar year was dated for August 8th 2025 we already heard that this movie has a bunch of this $100 million in order to calculate starting in it and we also learned It's gonna be in I next yeah, which is just amazing I mean obviously we're moving into this moment where large format viewing is the center of business doing part two as proven Once again, this is the best way to create an event to make money to create the site movie doors I'm not sure I ever thought of Paul Thomas Anderson as an I'm ex-don't maker, but I'm kind of giddy right now with the idea of just rocking out in a massive Movie I don't know I'm gonna walk be where we would go watch this movie. That's why the best I'm actually doing Los Angeles I'm not just standing there.

I'm trying to think I mean we could do city walk It's I always heard a parking pretty intimate. Yeah. Yeah, and it closed my real so close Yeah Listen to me Oh my god, wow. It was a historic space where I shared Margarita Bell Universal studios.

Oh my god now. I go to like who could have that. Oh, maybe maybe it's still open Okay, this is a debate. I don't do this.

No, it's actually worse if it's still open But you know, it's family needs to continue to all right. It's it's People's Margarita Bell Jesus. I think I was just doing that in my head is my own personal Morning for debate about it. That would be a lot of the reaction We got that was working at Grandland and Stephen Hyne wrote a piece honoring Jean Hammond Yeah, the headline of the piece somehow maybe people think that you had died I think it was a remembering Jean happened colon one of the great actors.

I mean that that would wow I just click to the menu at Margarita Bell They got bonus chicken bites chicken case DS. I know Appetizer. I mean, this is just my oven. Okay, so August I do you know how much I look I do that.

Yeah, food bud I keep coming up It's so good. I'm so hungry. It's like 10 or three in the way. I don't know if we're another hour Yes, the other thing.

How are you feeling about August 8 as a really safe? Well, it's usually when I go on vacation So I can't say I'm thrilled about that timing it also obviously indicates I was a general lack of courage and excitement about its commercial prospects August not going to don't be grounded Not not a dumping ground for big expensive. I mean, maybe it's also when they felt comfortable that they could book all that I think that's right I think that's what I think there are a lot of big movies coming out in the first seven months of the year And so because of that this is a window where they owned those ice cream for probably four to six weeks It's better than September 5th. I would say it was September 5th I think myself loud.

I think this is near commercial more towards movie. So who cares? Well, it's only full time is Anderson, but I gotta figure out again on vacation in July next year. Yeah Yeah, actually I'm about our schedules after the podcast, but just between us Um, this is a whole, you know, and then it got a year they could listen for one year and they could wait in my mouth This is one week away from my birthday movie So I feel a little disappointed that we couldn't have really I never get a birthday movie this year I'm getting horizon part two.

Yeah, well, please What's the best thing part two is what I get to celebrate? It's a day after yeah, well as you recall I had a special screen for my birthday You consider the same I just a red out in AMC this week one theater, which you can buy your AMC So I remember I think it was four hundred and sixty nine dollars for up to 40 people to get into the single screen here I'd like to be more kind of just you know, it's not cheap, but that's not bad Is anything included that food and drink wise? I don't know the answer Okay, do they have a lot of cottos, which is crispy shrimp? Well, I'm only gonna show it to me.

Those kids. Oh, it's actually sauce That's we see it's a lot of toast. What kind of toast is that five for 1495 at Margarita University It's incredible as well. Well, I just want to make sure you want to put a lot of the cottos.

Yeah, because it's like spicy out Yeah, yeah, we're play all those years about being really paid off really pick it up I just want to appreciate it. The good work that people do. I agree about I think you get to see what's in rather I have to go what's gonna bring us there, but I'm really really you know really excited But we made more so than usual because it feels like it's something that we never really seen a big scale movie So I'm about another movie was announced or confirmed. I guess this week was Edington which is there was much speculation about the R.

Yes, sir Director Jale possibility suppose if I was afraid let me just let you be the charges R. He charges he is coming through with an original Western that is starting to feel very soon and starring Hold your breath walking Phoenix Pedro Pascal Amazon and all his involved. It's a sound. Let's go It's right.

I guess we're talking on Sunday night about What happens when it feels like Oscar is a sort of like our Italy's maybe not the age of the people listening But it's like we're the target audience they're marketing to us the references of us You know, I'm like oh my god That's just 20 years ago now in my parents But this to me feels like we did it and now like the time is ours because they literally they just cast walking Phoenix Pedro. I was known and awesome about her and then you are asked her, you know It is a Western how are you you know? You're not the biggest Western fan. Yeah, I mean they do get messy But I believe in everyone.

Okay, I'm very excited about this as well So the other bit of news that came over the transom that I was very pleased to see was um we've got a new date for the forthcoming The third film in the venom trilogy. We also have a new title. Yeah, the new date is October Which is where venom films along the previous event. I know you last every year I love October so much it's horse season, you know, then it's kind of a horror character He's a very scary superhero figure and the title of the film is venom cool in the last hands That's really that's the best thing I've ever seen all year.

It's really so funny. I don't care about this It's genuinely funny. Good job to everyone involved So let's just let's real a little bit more deeply this now the last answer course is the name of the wonderful Michael Jordan I guess it's Paul's documentary that I'm French is here directed So that film was about kind of the end of an era the closing stages of the peak of the Michael Jordan experience His last year was a couple of what he went out a champion Is that that's what I think this is for is that representation of superhero era of the venom era of Tom parties era as a as a Simbiet Oh tour is it is it the last dance between Eddie Brock and the alien costume that covers his body Like what is the what is the is a man named Eddie Brock who puts on a alien costume? Yes, you haven't seen them First of all this scene we can it's a star is born right?

I don't want to spoil it for you But here's a scene I Think you're a yeah, and so I just on star is born wave and you loved it, but we're also like venom You know it became a bit free as a bit. Yeah, so I didn't feel that I needed to infringe on your bit You know Michelle Williams in the first or second both both well she didn't last answer I suspect okay So she's not done not that I mean the career back. She's sort of his How did describe her character for Lauren somewhat bored X girlfriend who has moved on But she's still concerned about these well being okay. She does know that venom exists and she often asks him in the films How's it going with venom?

Okay, did she know that venom is him venom key? Think of him She does know well. He's not though venom is just this alien that is attaching itself Sadie, oh interesting has its own personality and it sometimes takes over at ease lifestyle. Okay I mean this is really this is podcasting me explaining the kind of anymore to you I feel fucking amazing any have like free will in this it's a complicated The longer the longer you spend with venom the more he kind of consumes your agency so Sorry for toxic relationship The movie is that this is what we have a bad friend, but he's an alien that's black who right so The movies are the I genuinely believe whether he's a little bit of movies They're super on the joke like they completely get how stupid it is and how goofy it is and they're playing out It's hard you have a glass.

It's like the great name your movie last answer is just because venom is what dead pool thinks it is But venom is actually that that's my great. I will die on that. I like that But it's not as it's not as dumb smart as it is venom is as smart as it is. Okay.

I'm into that into thing which I know I don't know, you know, I'm over that. We have a great. I love that reason of what I also do the first one happy forever Panzen hope Oh, yeah, it's not just I hope that you know say my best. Yeah, I do Yeah, I do Okay, and also this is some time, you know this gives him some leave and then they can he can get back in the suit No, I know is that the human body after you have child attributes significantly and that's really true That's her mother and I'll be honest with the volume.

So we should well hooking up for that into the other thing He was like the wealthiest in the Batman. He was a little which I appreciated a little bit like Walter We box her energy, you know, he was pretty cut stiff Yeah, but also like some of that is like the confering of the suit like the suit was cut and he was recall Yeah, I do I mean, there's like there's a middle ground between having a guy and you know being drawn seen at the Oscars That's very true. So it's sometimes okay. Let them know there.

Who do you think they're doing? They don't even know that into why I was gonna ask you so that's MCU DC you come forward. Oh right So it was Conferral I don't know what role if any place in the Batman too presumably they'll go either Joker or Canon hero I just remember when I had to text you who is that at the end of the Batman? I think you're like that is the Joker Yes, it's played by very cute I'm not playing him as like I'm sorry.

I'm looking back on it. Okay. You're the voice of the energy is giving Okay, okay I know that's like a month. You know, I really mean like I watch over four nights like in my time trying here Okay, so that's good.

I hope they bring her down against work in that would be funny Yeah, the Joker dancing really is what kind of fit that reminds me a lot of Jack Goos and cooking as a Joker to that dance, you know, something similar there. Okay. The other one too Just for this morning is that Greta Gerwig has been cast in her life partners new film I think they are married now. Oh, remember because I was a life partner.

Yeah, they are like partners and sometimes work partner You know, I think it's that because your life partner just really really ask him to not like use partner like you can just say wife. It's okay. You know, it's like woah, be it true. No, like it's he's really weird in the way that he references me And his writing and I think it comes with like deep fear, which is good and we have like instilled that over time You know when I talk to him about this he says every right to my wife.

He hears it. Oh, I know I know He interviewed Paul to my once and it was when we still live in New York and they were in paradise We were used to live and I guess we were engaged beyond it was like a real safe point for both of us as a word Yeah, I mean, I just you know sounds a little dead. But anyway, you guys are still weird I think this is normal behavior, but like all living humans in America like my fiance not never thinking points about it I mean, you know that I have complicated feelings about weddings, right? Oh, that's not my fault The little arrangements of your finances.

That's gonna be an issue. Yeah, we were so that I know it's like you told Paul to my end this is how you pray stuff. He's like the woman. I'm going to marry you still here And Paul to my goes have you met Exactly Every single time he is describing it's always just like sound like future like he's gonna marry that emergency You know it doesn't make any sense so I sometimes like just let's keep it simple It is like technically wife let's go with it But life partner work partner all of you about I just wanted to know that I do think we know that no about that And right where we're married because they celebrated the bill.

You'll have to pray. Oh, yeah, which is like So that's why we need to remember that I mean, there's social lives inside from raising their young children is just going to make scenes in the bill Conscious wildly relatable wildly relatable and she's gonna use new movie because it's new movie wild stuff George Clooney Adam Sandler lord during Riley Kio and Billy credit subscribe as a funny and emotional coming of age film about adults We'll just go on the different Netflix and also that's the description of all of his films. Yeah That's just so it's you just based on every film pass and present It's being described as a movie featuring humans and we're looking forward to it greatly. Okay, a lot of good news That's nice nice nice nice when we get exciting news about this here.

I'm trying to keep positive about 20 for as well I felt like love is bleeding. I have no idea what you're gonna think of this another movie Not yet discuss in any form of fashion. We're just gonna try and be up going on show I had a lot of fun to movie I'm a huge person who were fans looking forward to this as a fan of Saint Movie that even on the show. I think I lost in the shuffle of the pandemic because I think it played festivals in 19 was meant to be released in 2020 I think I saw in a screenroom 2020 and then eventually came out in 2021 in the spring when we were like Can we go movie theaters?

What's going on here? I'm here 24 specially was trying to stick hard to that theatrical model and so that very good movie I think it was a little bit over looked by some I really enjoyed it I think it's about personally. So what do you think about last week? I did it I had to I think I was surprised you that I liked Well, I once tried to do that I liked the sex the sex the sex in person sewer is has a Complicated and evolving relationship with a by builder played by king of Ryan and they Get happy and it's great and like and all the business of this movie is full She's like full mullet incredibly and it's really working and she feels like it feels very natural I'm very essential to my so feeling like I'm so that's great So I like all the I like this happiness and I actually like the core really and I would say that that actually There was some some joy to it that it lean into the physicality and it's like the actual Like physical pleasure of this movie where what's got to me this worry?

We've seen it a million times and then I'm not sure I totally followed it, but yeah I really I really like to experience it somewhat conventional Norfilm and so I want to talk to you a little bit about normal views in the 21st Dream how we think about them, but the kitty o' ryan character who is this very imposing bodybuilder figure comes to come a woman comes to town a queer woman who Christmas or characters also gave a phone of and There's a serious and violent figure in this world who kitty o' ryan's character actually goes to work for and we learned that characters about Harris's actually since we're taller and you know I don't want to spoil too much about what happens in the movie, but it takes a pretty traditional stretch You know, we see a lot of events We're just seeing we like this What the Frenchy I think is a little bit of what you're describing here. The word visual used to describe movies a lot of the time It's like this is like this is a real real ride and I think that word is sometimes implied in this case I'm moving this about bodybuilding these are steroids features incredible and expensive violence Kind of stunning choreography and some of that violence and also the way the movies have to get a word There's this incredible emphasis on the him body and the way the grows or the way that you know someone can collect their power Makes it an unusual proposition. I agree. I think it's a really effective I saw the movie as a special screening on Valentine's Day or maybe it was like a three days before Valentine's Day It was built as a Valentine's Day screening and so the audience was mostly women and yeah, you know There the dude I don't want to speak on you know, but half of a community.

I'm not a member But let me see I'm not excited for them. Yeah, I'm Christmas and out for a long time and she was in happy season It was very strong another movie released during the pandemic that was a fun streaming movie that comes like your best case in area streaming movie This is a little bit. This is like the first time she's like I'm a case of real. Yeah I'm a gay like you know barks and basically that's what her characters doing this movie and you can see why it's in Anyway, so this reading you can tell half the audience like this movie takes fucking ass and people were like clapping and really excited They never have a pretty gross out what I said down for not knowing what was gonna be right before the marketing hit It's hard to imagine this movie without her.

Yeah, it does not I mean, that's what's so cool about it is that she has a pretty she's a unique movie star She has the presence she takes up the frame like not in that like razmataz It's quiet. It's like her is my the draw to force her and The movie understands that in a way that like you know even happy a season She's kind of like smoldering in the corner while everyone else is doing like there's any screwball jokes And then everyone's like well, why don't you and our father just go out because you're the only people like in this movie Now point but this movie understands and like builds itself around her people which is awesome today Yeah, a lot of times you hear about and a movie star has a quiet appeal John Wayne or Stephen Queen where they're kind of removing lines of dialogue and they're from you feel similar thing We're Christmas who work, but there's almost like that sense of discomfort that she has there's not quite anxiety It's just it's like an unshurdness about how to engage with the world It is a signature feature of hers in this case. It's deployed because she has a lot of secrets There's a lot of things about her and her family history that she doesn't want to reveal and at other times It's because she has feelings for someone she doesn't quite know how to express But it is the same logic with the Stephen Queen type where when you're looking at him You're thinking what is he thinking and what is he gonna do next and she has the same power? You know not every movie star has that we're in an era of motor mouth movies And I like it too, but sometimes you get Chris Pratt action movies and that's not this is a different proposition, right?

So I thought this movie was really effective Kiko Brian is gigantic and And she's so good so she I am not in a learning person so apparently she's on the Superman Oran she was also in quantum medium Do you want to be in a medium? She was like the big bruising character on the planet Oh, yeah, yeah, sure, but not course all the time But in addition to those credits she was a copper while she has been like training martial arts that she was five She has done by building building competitions before that she is physically completed this part and it's I mean That is a sound check just her body which is used a lot in the movie, but then she and Chris and Stuart Really also do a mystery and that is really nice. Yeah, I agree I think that's a part of the me too and I also think an actress like her who is maybe not a season as a person So it needs a really seasoned actor opposite than for a part like that she has kind of the on-year role and Chris and Stuart has you know the Lean in role for lack of a better phrase. I kind of like the tough, you know First well like in the genre, she has like, you know, she's about her like a blackboard.

She's like the kind of like hapless detective She's wonderful and Harris is a out of great. So this is the wig Well, he's wearing I mean it's like all that Harris knows you know, no disrespect love beautiful But football and it has like just long flowing hair from the ears down Right, yeah, I'm like the back. Well. Yeah All right, but just like the effect when you see it is just like a bald man on the top half and then you know like Long city's a question should see our It's incredibly well in the movies and hair is a hard time So you can see that he's got the hair going in the back and you're moving to the class here and Harris at his advantage I mean it's late 70s maybe in his early 80s.

He is as menacing and screen owning as he's ever been he has a couple things that we go to truly gross and he's pretty pretty darn good Like this is a kind of thing that a movie like this could seem a lot smaller if it doesn't plug in the the Whatage that Harris and his work into it and a lot more slight maybe too because it is ultimately fairly faithful with one significant Exception to the conventions of the genre. You know, it doesn't really go that far outside it I wonder so like we'll talk about more and more being incredibly pessimistic kind of cynical genre for me I'm telling you see this as a pessimistic movie or just as a kind of a role story I think that's boiling the end could go either way Doesn't totally work for me. I think K. O'Brien is great and what they do with that character over the course of the film Doesn't totally flesh out.

Let's do a quick five minutes Yeah, I want to discuss a little bit with Rosalitz We talked about 15 points about the movie and then we get to look at the story Well, I'm here because there are a couple choices that she makes as a filmmaker that reminds me a lot of same odd And so maybe that'll give us some discussions of comments. No, anything with the ending of love lies bleeding. That's four or five minutes So are you referring specifically to the end of the movie where in this final confrontation between Christmas character and her father at Harris She grows to an enormous size like a fact of the people woman and They run off like frolicking in the in the field together I am specifically but also for the last third to maybe last half of that movie the character isn't a totally different movie She goes to Vegas and they have that like you know the bodybuilding competition as a look at by building competitions It's like quite visually impressive and shout out to all of those women and you know Even like behind it's that's a very cool scene that feels connected from us in the movie and then the character is just in like Sarah Robot mode and doesn't do the motivations and everything that like lead you to that Just from the rest of the movie. I think it is a little bit disorienting to understand the psychology of her character Like she comes a very desperate person very quickly and it's part of my just being credible humiliation that she suffers Everyone wants a good dream and failing right just as one where she gets her sick on stage while having this delusional moment And then her character comes kind of like robotic agent of death very briefly working for Harris character The 50 foot woman moment is a big swing.

I really liked it It reminded me a lot of the ending of same odd where like you see the same odd character He's been having a vision and levitating and you can't you have to decide for yourself But they're tapping her head are actually happening the same as your moment Right, it's a literal 50 foot woman moment. No, but anyway, it's how Lou the Christmas record sees her She's like her avenging monster avenging over you want to see it. So I love that choice I but you're right leading up to that moment. It's a little bit complicated I agree and I it's a memorable I do like the choice to answer you ask me the optimist or pessimistic I don't know because I don't know enough about like what comes before it and if they're roaming together at the end Is that supposed to be happiness and these people got themselves out of a situation or is it there on the run and she's a steroid monster Who was maybe always just saying with Christmas to her anyway?

Just you know as a place to crash and to get zero Yeah, can you both can you both but I don't know how to answer the question? Which is my note. That's a great question. Yeah.

Well. Yeah, there's no binary. Yeah, the interesting thing about that too is that Historically like a movie like this has a much more and anyway More finally in a song like a movie like what's happening in the sequel like we're going next It also the movie that this reminded me of a movie that a lot of people haven't seen probably one ever see which is 19 dreams So movie based on dance The last January which starts Jonathan majors and he was widely claimed for his forms of movie I thought he was exceptional movie this was before the relations about domestic violence starts against him and It has a very similar framework where he comes increasingly spoiled and crazed and there has a performance moment at a bodybuilding competition And I think if that movie had come out in the fall window that it was expected to this would have seemed weirdly iterative It would have seemed very similar and so that movie not happening I think in this perverse way is where it kind of tragic way to it makes this movie feel a little bit more fresh than otherwise I would have but I like a lot and I think it's like an interesting entry into the way that this genre has changed a lot So I had not always on the show for nine or alleys right right and I love my early I'm early is in some ways a traditional more to remake of the war, but even by the war standards It has a kind of absurdity to it that because it sends kind of carnival atmosphere So there's like gross and kind of strange and with it more. They're not necessarily But you know, it's the original shot black white the game of the tour on the early was eventually screened and sold in black and white If you just have a talent features, I kind of hapless guy who thinks he's already doesn't know anything if you're so in intriguing world of confusion Shadows so that movie fit pretty well and if you have a sense check out patterns really great pattern Everything about every 40s and 50s more ever created the genre itself Basically came out of a poor period in America where there was a sense of frustration and confusion by around the power city and the sense that like Masculinity was a trap capitalism was a trap government and power structures are trapped to not get to engage with them There's some of the best American movies ever made they've since been like widely adopted or fractured reimagined They had a bit of a boom in 70s.

I had a boom in 90s. I love the 90s and you know And war movies 21st century though is they're the same but different because for example You would not have had a queer love story beyond war In the next 40 probably wouldn't have had to be something in the 1970s and maybe not even really in the 90s They weren't really a fixing genre to gay stories in the 90s for the most part Maybe a few exceptions here and there but now it feels like it's a much wider aperture while still using the same tools So what we make I mean I'm even trying to think of of 90s examples where it's a woman at the It's like the this the book or stand at the detective that's very great So it's just you did not be in stronger women like you had like a new year in the last adoption So I like at the center of the movie, but she was still a part of yeah exactly so you know for so many years it was Confused white guy gets pulled into this world full of colorful characters and questionable to absent morals and it's trying to figure out The protagonist the person at the center that's where he has kind of widened Gender sexuality and then also the the nature of the world that is being explored has kind of widened from kind of like shadowy crime Underworld to suburban Kansas or wherever they are in Don girl Yeah, they're in the certain sort of you know the Midwest to the world of bailing Las Vegas and like bleeding You know kind of everywhere so setting end to characters, but the story needs no way's up to a good and There's like maybe a slightly right or side but not a right side and how we're gonna navigate all this And a bunch of people are gonna die and there will be a lot of people also the one movie from the 90s I think that is the exception of the cruiser rule It is obviously must have I didn't ask for as well. I thought that must have any influences down without Jennifer Tillie and Goshan Game one of you I think they said off to set off to the people. Yes Yeah, like he not so much pure noir, but that's another one But I think you're right about what's happening right now, which is it's not just about identity or class or race It's about where these movies are taking place there are some 40s more as it takes in the countryside But it's very common.

There's usually urban set dramas and now they can kind of be anything Do you have a personal favorite of classic work of this? Well, I would hear something about the classic it's not Falcon and this leap and and build that I guess which is not a part, but you know features like all time And then 70s you know we were always on down and on the bike. So that created our personalities I all the interviews but gone girl in particular obviously because of the way it turns all of the conventions on it I mean it's still in like in some ways it's most conventional right because bad because it's like very confused and Rosamaphike is the femtau and that there are law enforcement characters who can't really figure things out and things have gone wrong But you're fully just rooting for Rosamaphike. I mean you're not fully by it's a little bit of a false situation Like this has been like our truth is pretty much a dipshit, but definitely not right I mean have you been following the cable panel at all pretty much exclusively for you.

Okay Right, thanks so much. So like there has been like one of the and these are more fun conspiracy theories We really need to have a conversation about conspiracy theories on the internet and like you do need to be an artist or you need to be creative to be doing this I mean all the people who are just like she's gonna go mad or she had a you know BBL. That's not a video There's a lot of the Kardashians But all the people who are like I too would gone girl my husband if I said I came to it I'm not a girl in them. It's a great strain and that's like those are the people that I want to spend time with But implied in that he's like empathy with Kate Melton It's like well her whole family that she's married into is so crazy that she had to create like an entire scandal I genuinely think this is a really good secret Right, I think there's a lot here.

I think Royal Moore is an untapped area of interest that I think you could really I guess it's asking if you're right that you aren't How could you not be running for math like I mean that's the genius of the movie as that's not sure I know it's like pulling you both ways It is The genre in the flicker century is like in the early days of the genre or the early days of the century There were a handful of like stone cool classics there were also religions like well home drive is in war But it's also a real dream movie about the complicated nature of like fame and love and any other movie features I guess actually and you know there's like memories of murder the long-term movie Charlie of what I like earlier you know my report in a way It's kind of in wars in an early century noir and so we're plugging in sci-fi we're plugging in serial killer investigations We're plugging in all these kinds of ideas as the century goes forward And this is really the Christopher Nolan basically starts using the tonality that he nails in momentum in movies like the dark night in Inception and we know the cap rail becomes kind of like a signal figure in these kinds of stories Sure Island to huge homage to kind of like psycho-draman wars of the 40s and 50s that Mars were saving I think one of the great under the movies last only five years that is it's almost like no art dress up Because it's happening in line to personalize what's actually going on and it's also key to envisioning himself as this boat Our best character and then go new to I mean you know prisoners and enemy these movies are again using the kind of psychological cynical conventions about lost men who don't really understand They lose touch with their relationships in the natural world because they've been doing crazy something and maybe sometimes The woman maybe your child can ask maybe it's the idea that there might be two of you in the world There are also like some conventions too. I think they're probably the biggest and most classic one is drive Mm-hmm. That's the I Drive is that's yeah, I mean right we also I think this week we all learn once again that we need to not take Ryan I'm gonna you know really wonderful. I know I know my guy straight from the Oscars Austin for South by and I mean he's just back on the road show He's not the Renaissance is truly honest.

This is clearly not just the one movie on this situation Which is incredible. Yeah, I mean he spent one of the reasons why I came to love him He spent a lot of time basically making movies like this We're talking about in that little window where he's working a lot of niggles when he's working with their scene France Blue Valentine's on the war film but has a lot of energy drive of course is placing on the pine's of course is in many ways He had a friend of time in the history 99 TV of only God for this. I mean What was it blue ray? I'm sure it was a blue ray.

So yeah, I recently had to it's gonna work in my player What kind of a player is it? I don't know me. I don't know. It's whatever's that guy.

Here's my place. Yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, I know my place in the machine. I know my place You see I mean you see I know but I ordered it for 1977 draft remember, but it was only a little indie I watched the I was gonna do tonight The film you're doing is the turning. Yeah, which is a Herbert Ross film about the world ballet I'm saying to movies I know I know I know What we consider we're the modern run come there starts because I watch that we know like this is a fucking no Yeah, I mean any haul is also this year.

So there's like a different there is that era of ron comes and then Maybe I'll stop on our situation. Anyway, Tim's only God forgives blue ray 3. I mean What do you I do Do it doesn't work in the player that I have when you're front door hold it in your hand and throw out I need to be able to see it. No, give it to me.

I'll find a way to play it and watch my house Okay, I'm not super glad work to come to city my couch alone Yeah, I got a schedule on the calendar. You know, you're like the museum of Sean being rude We're having a fun pod. I'm not really What an I would be willing to open up an evening time. Oh, okay, I'm gonna put knocks down and make them on over.

Okay, you can watch the turning point I've never seen it. Yeah. It's Yeah, he's actually been in two of her. Also in a jim ski.

I want that. Yes, okay Help me pick some more movies. I've got some personal. Yeah, picks for this Here's all I'll say shut around.

That's wrong. We believe should be a mobile drive is an over-anter Yeah, brick it's weird if you open brick in rhinestone state You film because it is such an over homage relocating the whole group of people who do a high school I'm I'm a longer like this right. Yeah, I think decision to leave the most recent watch on film also again film is simultaneously Paying on it to be genre, but also subverting our expectations of the genre. Okay, how many is that?

Building The kind of side of the history side can in the creator. We were like this movie makes me think of movies that I love from The past or I believe that's a similar thing these movies are still being made in the 20% or still getting versions of these movies people People with choices right, but okay, so we got driving there too. Yeah, I'm two three my five shut around on all the All right, Rick gone girl drive. I'll throw a few more out of you.

Okay. What do you think of an advice? I think that's probably an over-anter are the movies that were picking too close to the movies that we got 70 years ago I'm not modernizing these stories. I think that's not very different advice a movie that's wanted major fight in my marriage, but it's still That's what I'm engaged with the genre and certainly I know that is a convention as well But you know it is true to this here.

So I really like this. Oh, yeah I got some recommendations on this is yeah, I got a blazer's debut film which is an old person to war. Yes A retiree right Some more Yes, yeah, that's critical. I'm in good with that.

Okay. I'm gonna put up killer Joe and I got a segue I'll kill a Joe course written by Tracy. Let's see play right directed by William Freakin and bring this up because of course a great I'm really more just on like a T. Blue right.

That's where I got. Okay. That's my space I agree with Kerry that the naming there could be examined. Well, you know I'm sorry.

I'm not saying that's like Are you on the blue right? It's before or after you're doing like shitpost down the CR head? That's a daily occurrence every day every day. We got I fire up CR heads I look at every post and then I add all my thoughts as I can't big name.

I literally don't use right. I don't know something. I've never done it But we see people are as well DVD. I'm sure it's a lot of people are people are people can be about to me if my This doesn't work tonight.

No because they're like check out this DVDs I got you know, it's people posting pictures of their shells and stuff But they're like here's a new one this one looks cool big controversy going on right now the aliens and true lies and The obvious right there agree they're green. They're also getting delayed the delivery to delay to many people So that's like people are saying like they were holding them because they're going to be together They were holding because the feedback and so bad about the transfers. I don't know. Thanks.

Yeah, anyway Do you want to put this in a lead in I do? Okay, so yeah, I think I mean one two three four five six I mean nine this is a great episode straight up. I don't make a man. It's so tough because there's so many good ones I mean I'll list the other the short list of films that I added are Phoenix the pencil move.

I love the place You want the pines 25 power. I mean one of my favorite movies It does be I mean it fits momentum that in terms of influence that Not sure if it's a kind of sort of it's widows. I might be released at the left second I'm gonna speak on the show. Yeah, and it touches in I think it probably has to be a memo Even what are we for Nolan?

We have our favorites but in terms of what it's an of his own personal making and then people try to do what he's doing Okay, I mean I like it's a ton more movies I don't want some people say how could you not put in blue or how could you not put in under this overlay? How could you not put in? You know, like there are I'm either they're at the bill here. I do that match point.

Yeah, yeah She'll be doing well Can't read them shut around Mohan Drive brick decision to leave gone girl and her advice killer Joe Momento sexy beast and drive. It's pretty good. Yeah, all of these movies are Lee big fan Okay, that's my first entry nor canon any closing thoughts for my conversation Rose see like leading person's work. What's really hot as she has an every single press photo Have you been following the press or I read a really good feature about her?

Right? That's all I just like all her promises. She's going for a fashion. Why is she awesome?

Great I'm like I'm a big kind of first. I hope she continues to make a movie So I really like to know. All right. Thanks.

I'm a conversation with Rose glass Very happy to join our Rose glass. She's here with her second feature film. She's very exciting. Love is bleeding Rose I want to start by asking you remember the first movie you saw that maybe you think maybe I want to make movies There's a there's a there's a like a handful, but definitely one of them was Jason in the Argonauts I guess well on TV.

I was quite young. I think those are animated skeletons. Yeah, I was in one Yes, I think the sort of the animation those skeletons. Oh, how did they do that?

Yeah, absolutely. So it's like drawing a lot as well So I then started trying to do the kind of stop machine things. I think sort of it's like that and then Then I think probably like the little of the ring strategy like was one of the first sort of like I'm gonna say French like like sort of well the films I got ready to test with and we get like the DVDs and watch That sort of behind the scenes feature as a films I think was the first time I started to get a sense of what goes into making film and started thinking about something Did you come from artistic family is how is it received when you started exploring how to make things like this? Yeah, I think it was kind of a muse encouragement for sure like I mean I think it's like I'm very creative people that they don't work in creative aren't used to experiment on these other wise and quite sensible sensible professions.

So I think they I think they sort of went on and did it and they kind of Always interesting when a filmmaker like yourself has success You know your films are very genre for genre bending very propulsive but also very interface like did you finally know these kinds of movies that you would make early surprise as it kind of movies you made I don't know. I know that my grandma came to see Saint Ward And I think it was quite short and not sure if she'll be watching this later So I think my parents probably went all that surprised. I mean when I was making little films when I was a little bit like teenager And they'd always been at some time to go into acting in it as well Even at that point they were quite surreal city. How many of the top kind of things?

Where does the passion for genre come from? It's interesting here You're not sort of the rings actually makes sense now Then when I think about the movies that you've made But is that just something that kind of primarily interested you as a kid? I think so. Yeah, I think I think I think I've been a little bit of a crap's in a file to be honest I'm not very good at analyzing all this stuff I think the films that were getting excited wouldn't probably want to like to film school and kind of like But I mean all these kinds of um Otherwise it was always quite sort of just flambal bassic bloody funny stuff I don't know maybe that just seems to come from growing up in a fairly kind of Going up in the countryside.

Not having many friends It's all the kind of like violent and being a bit shy So maybe sort of something and being some sort of like really slowly by carry through things that are bigger than you are It's funny because I really really like Saint Mark quite a bit But I don't know that I would have expected something in quite an personality of love I was bleeding I really really loved it I'm curious like where it came from and hearing you talk about that and maybe the fact that Maybe some of these characters are isolated in the same way that Saint Mark is kind of isolated that there's there's actually a kind of coherence between the protagonist of these movies We're like we're living start for you. Yeah. I kind of see like Lou and Jackie and more We're having some kind of search system some kind of way and they I guess it started with Jackie's character like I think they wanted to like have some follow some sort of female But he built a having some kind of physical and random she's running for a competition That was like the initial thing and I guess in that sense She's kind of similar to more to know about kind of people who feel invisible wanting to make this all very visible and Going to some kind of transformation and probably it's any questionable as advice methods Jackie is a feature as a critical component but it often feels like lose movie So at what point as you were thinking about the Jackie character does it become where she becomes this kind of person comes into the life of the person We see movies eyes through at the beginning. Yeah, I know I mean it's it's kind of an amazing I mean maybe I sort of just personally I guess I'm probably a bit closer to Lou or in a way as a fascination for me Of somebody who manages to be able to build it as well as it's so far I'm like just having that degree of discipline and dedication and physical kind of strength Just quite again things to my personal experience.

So the idea of somebody falling in love with somebody like that I don't know I think it's sort of something to do with like so I go to the friend Veronica and We sort and as we decided to make it around that's not like just looking at Jackie Which is quite a young sort of romance we're both interested in looking at is the kind where it's not kind of You know sort of love comes all over and other than people I think sometimes you can do full in an idea of a person We don't necessarily know in the real them and I sort of think in a way you and Jackie kind of happens to an extent They both kind of take what they need to each other. That's something a bit kind of I think the sort of romance I was interested in looking at something which is a little bit more parasitic maybe a little bit toxic inside You know dependent and people sort of like using romance kind of get them where they need to go No, I'm not even thinking about mom in the kind of that kind of that relationship She has to generally character in that which wants from that character which she needs from that character I'm curious about setting a movie where it's set in a time that said it feels like it's very influenced by Kind of like 80s and 80s and 80s and you know, I'm American I really really like I was a little bit like a terminator at times I know that question mine with those little animals in normal for the maker by side by side and also I'm very clearly like corona bird going on to why you guys go why you know I mean I'm really come from I think we said on the decade first I think we just wanted it to sort of be kind of removed from the here and now So it's a little slightly more heightened slightly fatal kind of feeling Some of it's practical it's kind of like you set stuff now And just the internet such a media such a big part of being like so you count as the distance So you know you want to count as like difficult and you know when they can do about phone Kind of cool something to be I think by setting it then in that place It sort of was to kind of highlight the isolation both of them like both characters sort of different small towns They feel very disconnected from people so it feels a bit more results when they then physically cross-hards with somebody They kind of resonate In America to be like really really and beginning I think I was trying to find a way to set any UK So I didn't intimidate by the you know I'm not American. How do we send any time out here? So I'm not going to do this I'm pretty not But there's a way to actually seem to kind of go there just felt like Like I've told you I do a setting in sort of So I just want to start to be correct to be great as well But I think just the scale of it And I guess because it sort of ends up becoming on some levels about ambition and you know just the setting it in this country And obviously that means it's like folks like you know for the American dream all this kind of thing and you know Just seem to sort of like an American dream very delicate So it felt like putting it in something quite recognizable in time and space You can then because there's so many films of that kind of era and place It's almost there's some kind of like mythological kind of quasi-treaty kind of elements American it's sort of so familiar that was sort of the fun challenge was trying to find whether making those for me I think feel against somehow It's probably a well and there's a kind of alien quality I didn't think about that until around there and then some gets any gifts and aliens and all that And in New Mexico it was like it was looking at the states and getting things like practical kind of Objects or trees and stuff like that I thought you never been to New Mexico until we started doing location and breakies And we went out with Turkey and I've been a bit in a couple of period dressing and stuff Yeah, I mean it works well to be Jackie arrives and lose life like a manly in his land in a way and someone she has this really seem Before quite in this way.

Yeah, I saw screaming the movie Christmas working around. She was like I don't know if I've ever been more proud of anything. I've ever been about she's really really excited about being in this movie Stop see big star, but I'm curious like one way to have someone like this coming to a movie like yours after saying Which was you know claimed but it's still a smaller film and also what's like to work with somebody who has that level of notoriety and their People following her and you know has all that work in a production like this sort of I mean very quickly when she's not production you're just in your own little bubble and she's you know christians great and like super Unpotential and very down the earth ready so she I think because we've been like a very cool quite like the ones who like occasionally if we go out for something It'll be kind of something like oh, I thought she's quite happy that since she has a security We're not gonna think but you sort of get it when you're in the making film But definitely when she first signed on for it. That was just that was insanity like a man Like she you know she's got the sense of what's gonna nation She do have a she wants to be so yeah Her and I could see the edge as well I guess I'm just very grateful to be sort of a bit I think I'm gonna film they could have been and I'm sure it was a bit of a old one I don't know she just seemed very up for it People seem to be having a lot of fun in this movie I wonder if they don't get offered these kinds of parts I do want to ask you about it to do it Harris's now legendary American actor seems to be Lapping up the opportunity you given what he said when you guys were not Why do you want to do this?

What was it that you connected him? He was I met him at his house in in LA And we were sitting outside in his dance, which is my family I think I think she'd been particularly pretty cheap to keep it a fan of saying what so maybe she encouraged him to To hear me out and he was yeah, he's three chill. He's like also, you know, this character. I'm not quite I think I don't know my paraphrase but the impression I got was that he was kind of I'm not totally sure what this weird thing is that you're asking me to do But you know, I like you like you film You know, you seem like trying to do something, you know, I like listen sure That's that's kind of thing.

Um, and I'm sure there were days on set where he was like looking around I'm not that kind of myself into but um, but he hit it pretty well though and was and was wonderful and like Yeah, just think he's fantastic in this like I think character But he was quite nervous about who to cast out. He should look this kind of because you know a lot of times I'm playing with all types of little kind of stuff, you know, hoping something fun with it and his character is I'm able to you know, but evil to be real and I just wanted to make sure we found a way of Want to avoid doing the thing where he's just overly conservative and matcho man kind of dude who's of this group of his That's in daughter and this you know, I want to avoid that kind of thing and I don't know He just bring I mean this like as a comment, but he just brings it like say free he unpredictable Strangeness to the role which I mean I guess throughout the film you sort of meant to be together even though Luke was And character even though she said, oh, it doesn't much nothing like him, you know I think growing up she's just a human lot and then you think he's really cool So I guess no question was playing you know It was like it was like it was like okay, well, let's try and cast it by and do the version for that Some of you can imagine young blue being a little bit sort of in or of So he's a bit too sensible. Yeah, he's not his hair does not want to mention all and I don't know You're strong case for his moral compass But you do kind of understand by the end of the movie some of what he's up to and specifically how Why Luke is the way that she is Yeah, what has what has made her the way that she is Well, I understand why that's not in the strip of your movie quite all sound design both of these movies I don't understand people don't understand how to do I don't really understand how to do but it's like you pay a special attention towards Is that something that's like in the script or something that's happening? What's the question?

How do you think about it? Well, I'm like there's only people seem to be picking up on the sound design because yeah It's about the same sound design I know who did who did sound design first thing Well, and he just really he doesn't seem to be something around these films as well very lovely man and he Yeah, I guess this film maybe I'm just not really getting settled by so suppose like every element and a sound of a half the film From the beginning I was kind of in the same way I was like don't be afraid time of a big You know, I was before we had the story for this film. It was more about knowing that the sort of tone and feel it needed to be kind of visible in heightened and pulpy and I guess so yeah quite a lot this I mean particularly Exound it's kind of written into a bit of this so much Yes, so much that he happened in in post actually look at it first and then basically Pass it onto the sound of these whole team of people to work with him So yeah, like particularly good BFX as a effects editor who's kind of doing over You know just sounds like physical stuff that's happening in the scene He kind of like most he does the design kind of like lay with them I'm just kind of moving things on top and it's like stuff was going on And you know, oh yeah, this is something um So yeah, just kind of whatever to make it feel like you really I don't know I think I think maybe I think of making films like more of a sensory visible thing I think it in those times more than more than more than two Maybe when you're writing and like squelch and splat and like the feeling of something You want people to have yeah a little bit I mean there's loads of it that's then built on it's not been in this way Yeah, probably any time there's a particularly big like blood splat or violence and gore and Or sometimes you hear something before you see it And you go by finding yourself writing like we are like how do you sell? How do you sell?

Um Yeah, so So in 2020 you give an interview at the same time We're working on something that's sort of body horror And I assume that that is what it's turned out to be Yes So do you still think of it as body horror when you look at the film now? No, I can kind of see that there's body horror elements in moments in it But no, I don't really think it's body horror. There's a bit of flirts with elements of body horror There's a really stunning scary death sequence in the movie I was wondering if you talk about designing something like this like how to capture it how to make You're the first one. Yes, the first one.

Yes. Um You're not a spoiling thing but I'm sure it's like how you think about the way you want to shoot it the way you want to be edited The way you want to see it's you know we've seen thousands of millions of death scenes As a murder scene I've never seen a much more than a bunch of ways in this I'm like oh my god, you know it was intense Yeah, it's yeah, it was it was fun to hear people reacting to that way I wasn't expecting to be quite that um It was I think with that one I'd sort of Maybe just the way that she does it that had just been a specific visceral sort of imagining like fantasy I've sort of had in a particularly weak angry moment about now I've never obviously do anything like this But I guess Bill on sort of is kind of like getting out some of those um secret hidden kind of things and definitely Smashing somebody in that particular way and say what something I could like imagine an envision myself doing and you can sort of You can imagine the theme of it so that's it was just kind of just sort of being out some horrible She's full of mine and getting back into do it and It's fun to film like it's Something sounds practical like in terms of like what you see what you see when you see someone head gets so smash like my skin I think we've toyed with seeing the moment of the smash and we would have a big big effect You see someone's face kind of breaking open and then partly because it's very difficult It's not something else in the prosthetic It's a plus be effects or whatever and sometimes it's better to play this kind of beats off screen I think people's imagination sometimes be in the gaps more effectively and it sounds really important And then it means it's the optimal kind of becomes the reveal So you know this is good. You definitely want to get some character finds them and then you should have that because reveal of To get characters face so brilliant That's a double the payoff It was quite fun. I don't know Do you say boy does it fun?

It doesn't happen to me this thing with this I mean I don't know how it's well for it is it is shocking But I know what you're going to tell me from the first one was you started this thing So they've spent a lot of time basically having to just line on the ground It's not a lot of the bottom of the face So we sort of knew as people and this is one of the processes I know that time itself affects somebody I kind of don't know They're going to have to do something and you know how you can kill them I know exactly what it means It's like we sort of put the bottom face and all the blood and everything It gave the shot of this about them after two time It starts and I was like do what you can with this and then they sort of came up The idea of like it's jaw kind of hanging off so then when we got shot And then we went and we went and we went and we said oh actually if we just have a shot This is how it's jawed and we get a flop around a bit when he picks up so that's all that's all fun stuff to figure out It's brilliant on it. What is your favorite part of the filming process at this point? That kind of like Probably posted on this and I was like editing yeah like I think that's the first time that you're actually You feel like actually putting them together and it's not sort of because of when You know it's wonderful parts of the process and shooting for exciting But it's not you know it's obviously very intense shooting and very Training as much as anything like for me and it's just the amount of Interacting you have to do constantly every day It's just the amount of people and maybe being slightly socially awkward It's just the amount of interaction and people that you have to deal with those It's really exhausting So then when you edit and edit with Mark Townsend it's same as well We have a lot of fun together. It's just like then you're just like the interview interim And you actually got a 15 front of you and you actually can tell there in the moment What's actually happening?

So maybe if we film it like this is this gonna work and all that? And so I really enjoy it and you sort of end up not like rewriting but it's kind of it's the last I don't know that everyone says you know you write it first first right the past When you actually write it and you shoot it so it gets written again and then everything And you know you keep sort of having to you sort of have to let go of whatever you have You have to know how you write it when you write it's great to look at what you actually shot in sometimes Sometimes that's a bit different places that you sort of then have to try and find ways again And you can build a comfortable background So I heard film like her say that before some love the post- Process I love being on some love just I'm just writing this right or whatever But I'm always interested when someone says that they post especially someone who says they like to say they're not the ring Because how much does that affect what you write in the future and the kinds of movies they're going to make right? Because if you know that something is gonna be this massive had managerial process which a lot of directing can be Does it change your feeling about how the scope of the story when it's a loser? You know what I mean?

I think I mean I think I'm a second film so I'm still you know figuring out as I go along But I'm getting the impression it makes sense to sort of like expand and contract a little bit in terms of I guess more It's kind of quite insular and I remember when doing all the commercial stuff where people ask me what do you learn? So I'm so glad that I made it film which is like contains like one or two people in one location That was definitely a big part of how I think we managed to put it off and there was a did not seem to my advice with this film But kind of deliberately was like I think I'm about writing a sort of wave of excitement and momentum and kind of wanted to Challenge myself a bit so I knew it was gonna be bigger and trickier And I guess that was that was what was exciting about this time around but maybe another time at the end of it potentially It was next time like maybe maybe a little more contained that time, but I'm still in the right to go So I'm not you could expand again. But yeah, not as being pretty self-fairly In the initial premise and I mean Veronica It sort of kept expanding out and out and out and out And I think this one was sometimes like enjoying which but you enjoy most I do enjoy post I'm particularly I really didn't enjoy my things like very isolating and very Scared that I was just writing something but I was never made an old You know, there was a lot of co writing I hadn't done before and I loved it and that was so much fun Because again, maybe similar to editing kind of a few in a friend You know, but it's kind of out and stuff each other without having to without the statistical stuff actually Before you get too far into what you're going to do and if you're going to be able to do that Okay, Ryan, you know, work before but it's like incredible finds and amazing as we In the world of boggling and female boggling and you mentioned a little bit Did you do research it significantly? What about that?

Why come your mind as a central figure? I think probably because I'm so not a bodybuilder It's like again, it's sort of just fascination with something about having that degree of assessment discipline That I think must be an essential component of being a bodybuilder It's not quite interesting We're going to show people how with their bodies But I guess I think the more looked at bodybuilding particularly just the strangeness of like a bit in a I think in a very beautiful way There's something quite anarchic and so we love out it in that sort of it's a sport But it's almost a performance art as well You're doing all this physical work and physical training getting incredibly strong I'm actually the thing you're thinking I'm just doing this just purely aesthetic thing It's um, that's kind of quite surreal So we've already spoken a couple things I have asked you about something very interesting What feels like it's incredible homage to some version of the type of 50 people when it needs like bigger than like I don't know if you think of it like somebody's seen or you know, but it's at this niggles Right movie about James Mason who's taking a drug in the movie. Yeah, it's not necessarily But it's like let me keep some like energetic. Yeah, and you know It's a big metaphor.

He's shot in the movie like you make everybody Oh, I haven't seen that Very good for you But I love that you made it in this movie. I think so cool So fun and you know, that's a reality I think it's like a lot of noticed Yeah, that's stupid No, it's really bold I'm sure you get it's like feelings like can you just talk about like where that came from and you just think that's yourself I kind of think about it I think me and Veronica It just felt a bit sad to sign and we already established these kind of surreal body kind of elements throughout the film So it felt like the natural sort of combination of those kind of things I guess it was to sort of set it more in a emotional Public reality I guess well, the eligible one so even I'll give it people to sort of decide what things like literally going on or if I do happen You're not just a basic film. It felt right But definitely when we're writing it we're kind of like can we do this? I think that's okay Everyone sort of seems kind of like okay.

Yeah, let's give it a go And again, that's one of the things which I want to just you and you and I find them writing it It's great, but then you're on set and it's like fact how? Okay, okay, so yeah, so that was um Again, maybe it comes back to yeah, sort of like early influences and stuff that we've got films is the stuff where it's kind of you know going into fantasy and You know, that's what's that's I think Yeah, film it was really fun I've never done any of that kind of stuff before like green-sweet and you know, so she played shots of like ed and christen reacting to the giant You know, they're looking at tennis balls on a we had to do this shot where they're reacting to the giant I think I'm shot out yet We used to have a different reveal like 80 kind of peers of this giant and sort of like marches down a sort of towards where they are And so we had like different sort of tennis balls on stands to sort of map out her journey And so we're doing the takes the thing that's just me on me having to like yell to christen and ed kind of okay She's walking down to what do and she reaches her head and you pick you up So Talk about You'll see it so how do you feel about I feel mostly numb at the moment to be it's really weird So fluctuate between being quite exciting and you know, it's great that a lot of people seem to enjoy it anyway And it's almost all happened already just the fact that I think that the biggest shift seems to be like just showing it So you know, this will be just the first time just about anybody who's not going to make a film has seen it It's already I don't know how much different it's gonna feel when just more people have seen it I'm expecting the reaction to get more mixed maybe I'm not sure In different reviews or look it back to obviously the kind of those things the box office. No, I mean, I mean that's coming up today So I'm sure I'll get up there somewhere I don't know enough about about anything to know to know what we're aiming for I'm just being wilted into that side of it to do it and yes, see what happens. I have no idea to do it But the reviews yeah first I did and then I think you start to I think it's like it's good to sort of like Get a sense of how it's going down and then have to quite point it sort of try and shut off the phone What kind of exist system you sort of get sucked into a internet vortex and talk it out so very I do you don't know what the next thing is or have an idea that you haven't really cracked it I got yeah, but I got the idea I'm writing the thing but I'm being moody and secret about it I mean I've never said that I asked people make it look the last thing they have seen Oh, obviously you're probably not going to be seen.

I know if you know what I'm gonna say Oh, I've been watching a really nice like I have not been like I've been like listen to a couple of last week I watched I'm actually having been to you know We premiered at Sundance and I caught a few films there including love me Christmas I really enjoyed so odd and lovely but together the stand-up thing I saw that sometimes was this documentary about writing No, you know I heard it wasn't there right here. It isn't experience Yeah, well, it's kind of the other thing I'll explain all badging up But they they sort of edited created a program where basically every time the film gets screened It kind of self generates a different edit so I think they sort of edit all these different You know because I've like music at the time I generate a music we can create to do to know It sort of keeps self generating new versions and so the way that they're talking to you It's a mirror that's a little bit so every time you watch it it's a different version and it's a You know many different you know No, they're gonna watch the same version twice the first time on screen It was one version of the film the next one simply different. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no It's actually that version again I think I had the Q&A office and it was saying that maybe they don't maybe whenever the film gets when it goes to stream Or whether they want to try and find a way to do that I'm not able to do it Yeah, he's a he's a inspiring guy and the film is going to be on the phone That's a great foundation before we wrap him just here's like does that concept? It's like he's about creativity.

I'm just exploding the format Does something like that even cross your mind is something you could do? Yeah, I mean I love the idea of I don't know what or how I'm probably going to be on this next one But I do like the idea at some point in future not I'm interested in the idea of it's going to be stuff which isn't necessarily traditional kind of narrative film You watch in the box. I don't know what next thing will be something that's been more massive for not entirely narrative or some different context And I'm sure way to see how much you're sure some music videos. It has me thinking about that because I feel you kind of like toying with this idea of linear and what we experience So that's why I love love like things are going to show us Thank you Rose glass.
