Welcome to embolden. We're through Bible scripture and commentary. We seek a bold fate. And in doing so, we share the amazing love and message of the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Hello, I'm Chris Shatter. I'm an ordinary Christian, seeking a deeper relationship with our extraordinary God. Won't you join me? Hi friends, we've embarked on a journey of love through the book of the Holy Bible.
These little love notes of gods that are dotted throughout the Bible are reminders of how much he loves us and how we can love him by loving others. I hope you enjoy the series. Today's love note from God comes from Proverbs 8, verse 17. I love those who love me and those who seek me find me.
Our commentary today comes from C.S. Lewis' The Problem of Pain. When Christianity says that God loves man, it means that God loves man. Not that he has some disinterested concern for our welfare, but that in awful and surprising truth, we are the objects of his love.
You asked for a loving God. You have one. The great spirit you so lightly invoke, the Lord of Terrible Aspect, is present. Not a senile benevolence that drowsily wishes you to be happy in your own way.
Not the cold philanthropy of a conscientious magistrate, nor the care of a host who feels responsible for the comfort of his guests. No, but the consuming fire himself. The love that made the world persistent as the artist's love for his work and despotic as a man's love for a dog. Provident and venerable as a father's love for a child, jealous and exerable exacting as love between the sexes.
How should this be? I do not know. It passes reason to explain why any creatures, not to say creatures such as we, should have a value so prodigious in their creator's eyes. It is certainly a burden of glory, not only beyond our deserts, but also except in rare moments of grace beyond our desiring.
