Love Will Save You, India
from Age Of Reason Hosted by That Reasoning Woman
It’s love that saves us. My grandmother She was 15 Riots broke out An old Muslim man hid her away In her 60s, she repeated this story to me endlessly In the same house, after many years Now, there are conversation around how ‘these people’ The language from “Darga sheriff” has become “they cannot be trusted” I met an old man in a skull cap Wrinkled face Driving a rickshaw His voice softer than the rest I wonder how this man cannot be trusted! I wonder if my grandmother would still remember the man so fondly Would she succumb to the great hate? Would she hold on to her love. Ardently so. Or, would she pick up pen and write poems, helplessly so. It’s the love that saves us. It’s the love for each other. For humanity. Love is powerful. Love is a magical potion. Not the saffron regime, nor the colonisers Could take that away from us Stand stall dear India India, that is of you and I. India that chooses love over everything else. This is a public episode.
