Lovelace Hospital Faces Lawsuit Over Ashley Griego's Death | Spokane News

A heartbreaking lawsuit has been filed against Lovelace Womens Hospital in Albuquerque after Ashley Griego died during childbirth in November 2023, allegedly due to medical negligence. The family claims she was given an excessive dose of Cytotec, triggering dangerous uterine contractions that cut off oxygen to her baby and led to a fatal emergency C-section. This tragedy echoes at least 21 prior lawsuits against the hospital since 2011, citing delayed surgeries and infant injuries. Griego’s mother says past warnings were ignored, and her daughter never got to meet her newborn son. While Lovelace defends itself as a top-tier maternity provider with stellar national performance metrics, the case leaves families shattered — her husband speaks of enduring unimaginable grief as he tries to raise their children without her.
