Loving Kindness Everyday | "Things We Lost in the Fire" with guest Debra Roberts

from Loving Kindness Everyday · host Kindness Calloway

Have you ever lost anything and then realized that losing it might have been the best thing that ever happened to you? Episode Sponsor: Asheville Sanctuary  In this episode, Kindness Calloway sits down with Debra Roberts, a 74-years-young artist, poet, bee bhakti, and Appalachian mountain dweller who has spent a lifetime at the crossroads of creativity and spirituality. Debra grew up in a vibrant arts and crafts household and has explored nearly every creative form imaginable — documentary film, dance, theater, poetry, ritual, and spontaneous kitchen rumba. In 2005, the honeybees called and she answered. She now lives deep in the mountains of Western North Carolina with her husband Joe, all manner of wildlife, and thousands upon thousands of honeybees she tends with full devotion. Both Kindness and Debra have lived through house fires. Both lost everything. And what they discovered on the other side of that loss will make you rethink your relationship with your stuff, your sense of control, and your sense of self. If you've ever held on too tight to something, someone, or some version of yourself — this conversation is for you. You'll walk away from this episode with: A new way of thinking about what you're actually attached to and why. Permission to grieve the life you lost and excitement about the one being built. Debra's grounded, nature-rooted wisdom on starting over with nothing but yourself. A reminder that control was always an illusion, and that's actually good news. Running In Slow Motion with Sidney & Tamra Smith You Hear Good Things podcast network Comedian Sidney Smith and his wife Tamra — a sharp-witted educator with a soft spot for flowers — team up to navigate life, goals, and culture at their own hilarious, at times, in-depth pace. They call it “running in slow motion,” and that pretty much sums up the vibe. This isn’t a marriage podcast (their union ranks a generous 5 out of 10, after all), but it is a refreshingly honest, smart, and funny take on relationships, ambition, and everyday chaos. From real talk to pop culture and unexpected interviews, it’s a joyride of relatable moments and laugh-out-loud observations. Explicit What You Thought ? They discuss the bigger news offbeat news stories of the week, but also the hard hitting stuff like, “When someone has multiple children at once, twins, triplets, etc., who is the planned child, and who is the accident child?”. They also make fun of people who can’t seem to get out of their own way in life, and bust each other’s balls along the way.
