Loving Our Immigrant Neighbors
from This Ain’t Sunday Morning · host West Side Missionary Baptist Church
Immigration is a divisive issue in our country, often reducing discussions to impersonal debates about borders and numbers. Yet, as believers, we are guided by Scripture on how to treat foreigners. Leviticus 19:34 instructs us, “The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.” The Law of Moses contains numerous commands about loving, caring for, and including foreigners. To explore how we can better support our immigrant neighbors, we’ve invited Kristen Flores to speak. Kristen Flores, a New Jersey native, moved to St. Louis in 2009 to pursue a Master’s Degree at Covenant Seminary. On her first Sunday at New City Fellowship South, she was introduced to the Firm Foundation Tutoring ministry. Her previous experiences include tutoring during college, supervising a tutoring program, and teaching in Uganda. Kristen saw tutoring as a powerful way to contribute to God’s Kingdom in STL. In 2010, she began working with New City South Children’s Ministry, and by 2012, she transitioned from a volunteer tutor to the Firm Foundation South Coordinator. She became the Director in December 2020. Kristen met her husband Dominic through Firm Foundation, and they have a child named Arabel. P.S.
