INVITATION TO A JOURNEY PODCAST EPISODE 1 Welcome to the very first episode of the podcast for Learning to Teach! Yes, it's still a bit "under construction," but it's time to get this thing started! These are the podcast notes. Some call them show notes. Since this podcast is about teaching, you could call them class notes. The purpose of the notes is to give you a bit of a preview of the podcast, as well as a review if you want to check out a link or book or some other thing that is discussed in the podcast. IN THIS EPISODE I start this first episode of the podcast for Learning to Teach with a bit of humor and "tribute" to the "under construction" images that used to dot the Internet landscape—and probably still do in many places! In this episode, I introduce the prime directive of this site and podcast: learning to teach. If this were a class in college or seminary, you really could call it Principles of Teaching. The ultimate goal for all the blog posts and podcasts is to help you and me both learn to teach better. Instead of talking about everything in the world of education, this site will focus on teaching specifically. That includes the various elements of teaching, including: -the teacher -the student -content -methods of communicating the content (including online education) -actually communicating that content -testing or assessing how well the learner is learning I also share a bit about me: -love of teaching -radio background -seminary education Then I invite YOU to join me on this journey. Here are the links. If you're interested in learning more about podcasting and perhaps creating your own podcast, here are some guys to listen to first. They give lots of free tips and advice about the process. School of Podcasting Dave Jackson considers himself a teacher, hence the name of his podcast, and I've been enjoying listening to his unique way of giving advice on the art and skill of podcast production. His podcast was a recent find for me, but he's been in this business for several years. The Audacity to Podcast Daniel J. Lewis has a clean comedy podcast, a Once Upon a Time podcast, and a podcast about podcasting, among others. The word "audacity" in this podcast has a double meaning. He does talk about using the free audio editing software Audacity, but he also means that if you are going to podcast, you need audacity, the willingness to take bold risks. Podcast Answerman Cliff Ravenscraft is apparently one of the biggest names in podcasting. He's produced more than 3000 podcasts in his career. He has several current podcasts in his network. If you have podcast questions, he's the Podcast Answerman. The Podcasters' Studio AND Podcast Quick Tips AND The Podcasters' Roundtable Ray Ortega produces both audio and video podcasts, and he does photography, too. He has at least 3 different podcasts about podcasting that I've listened to. His Podcast Quick Tips has short episodes focused on individual, particular issues, mostly technical. The Roundtable features several different podcasters who get together to discuss various things in podcasting. I'm sure there are many others, but these are the ones I've discovered.
