Lucasfilm Will Make Star Wars History In 2027 With 2 Major New Releases

In 2027, the Star Wars franchise will celebrate its 50th anniversary by returning to theaters with two significant cinematic events. The first is a 70mm IMAX re-release of the original 1977 film, A New Hope, which is scheduled to debut in February. This will be followed in May by the premiere of Star Wars: Starfighter, a new standalone adventure directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling. Set five years after the events of the sequel trilogy, the new film follows a cynical protagonist named Kade Auberon as he confronts his past. These releases represent a historic milestone for the series, as they will be the first Star Wars entries to utilize the premium IMAX 70mm film format. By capitalizing on the recent surge in popularity for high-end large-format screenings, Lucasfilm aims to revitalize the brand's theatrical presence. This episode includes AI-generated content.
