Lucy Atkinson: Coaching, Hypnotherapy, and the Art of Coming Back to Yourself

from The Soulful Catalyst Podcast · host Joanna Ingram

What if overwhelm isn't a problem to be fixed, but a signal that something needs to be understood? In this episode of The Soulful Catalyst, I'm joined by Lucy Atkinson, Life Coach and Hypnotherapist based in Hope in the Peak District. After 16 years in education supporting children and families, Lucy now combines coaching, hypnotherapy, and her Journey to Balance framework to help women move beyond overwhelm and create calmer, more grounded lives. Lucy's work is rooted in a distinction that matters: hypnotherapy goes deep into the subconscious to resolve a presenting issue, whether that's anxiety, insomnia, or a persistent phobia. Coaching, on the other hand, is where the longer-term sustainable change happens. The patterns of behaviour we've slipped into over years, the way we become whoever the people around us need us to be, the quiet accumulation of stress that eventually tips into overwhelm. That's where Lucy's particular blend of skills becomes genuinely powerful, especially for women navigating midlife, with all its hormonal shifts and mounting responsibilities. What I love about her approach is that she's not handing anyone a five-step plan. She's helping women understand themselves more deeply, so that when the overwhelm comes back (and it will), they already know what to do with it. In this episode we explore: ➤ The difference between coaching and hypnotherapy, and why knowing which tool to reach for first makes all the difference to lasting change ➤ Why overwhelmed women often make the worst clients for standard self-help, and what a different kind of support actually looks like in practice ➤ How small shifts create enormous ripples, from a client who went on to publish a book and head up a department, to women quietly transforming their relationships and boundaries years after working together This episode is for any woman who has read all the self-help books, tried all the strategies, and still feels like she's failing. Sometimes what's needed isn't more information. It's a different kind of support.
