Luke 1

from Riverside Reading Plan · host Riverside Church

Gabriel announces Jesus's birth to Mary and John's birth to Zechariah, with Mary's Magnificat celebrating how God exalts the humble and fulfills His promises to Abraham. These angelic visitations connect the New Testament to Old Testament prophecy while demonstrating how God works through ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary purposes. The chapter establishes Jesus as both Son of David and Son of God, fulfilling messianic expectations while transcending them.
