Luke 10:25-37 - Jesus Has His Eyes on You

Before we look at Luke 10, I would like to ask you for special prayer today as I will be on the road traveling from my home in Sneads Ferry NC down to Savannah GA. Tonight I’m speaking in a mission’s conference at Countryside Baptist Church for my pastor friend, Rick Flowers. Thank you for your prayers today!   There are so many lessons for us to learn from the story that Jesus told to the lawyer here in Luke 10. One of the first things that I couldn’t help but notice is the number of times that the word “certain” is used in this brief story. “A certain lawyer” (v. 25). “A certain man” (v. 30). “A certain priest” (v. 31). “A certain Samaritan” (v. 33). Jesus seems to zero in on very specific individuals and the attitudes or actions that they exhibit in this passage.   This should remind us that the Lord Jesus always has His eyes on each one of us in every aspect of our lives. Psalm 139:1-10 describes how detailed this “look” of Jesus is: “O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it. Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.”   We should never forget this “look” of Jesus upon us. He is interested in every detail of our lives. He not only knows who we are and what we are doing, He knows our attitudes and motives behind our actions. This should both scare us and encourage us. I believe that this is what the “fear of the Lord” is about in the Bible. It means that we have a constant and continuous awareness of the presence of the Lord in our lives! This awareness should motivate us to run from evil. Give us courage in the face of danger. Fill us with faith and hope in the midst of difficult circumstances. And it should cause us to be in awe of His glory and fall on our face and worship Him.   Take time today to look at each of these “certain” people; the lawyer asking the question; the man on his way down from Jerusalem to Jericho; the priest who went to the other side; and the Samaritan who came where the dying man was and had compassion on him.   Today, I’m convinced you are that “certain” individual that Jesus has His eyes on! What will He find you thinking and doing?   God bless!
