Luke 12:41-48We learn the importance of doing in our Christianity. We learn the dreadful danger of those who neglect the duties of their calling. We learn that the greater a man's religious light is, the greater is his guilt if he is not converted. "If we love life, let us resolve by God's help, to be "doing" Christians. This is to be like Christ.""It is a vain delusion to suppose that the Gospel speaks nothing but "smooth things." The same loving Savior who holds out mercy to the uttermost to the penitent and believing, never shrinks from holding up the judgments of God against those who despise His counsel.""Our judgment at the last day will be according to our light and opportunities."Questions:1. Ryle clarifies the difference between justification and sanctification, and that our Lord’s call for us to be doing good works is part of our sanctification. If we died today, would our lives be described as those who did ‘good works?’ Do we give ourselves for the good of others, both spiritually and physically?2. Are we living in such a way that if King Jesus returned today, we would be ready to receive him? Ryle offers 3 discerning areas that would spell out danger for our souls which are worth pondering here: are we lowering our standard of holiness in any given area? Do we tend to dislike those who are more spiritually mature than us? And are we conforming to this world in any way? Let us take heed!3. This is a heavy but important question: what difference is what we know about God and the Scriptures doing in our daily lives?
