Luke 4

Jesus's temptation in the wilderness succeeds where Israel failed during their forty years of testing, using Scripture to resist Satan's attempts to derail His mission. His inaugural sermon in Nazareth applies Isaiah's Servant passage to Himself while His rejection by His hometown fulfills the prophetic pattern of messengers being dishonored. The chapter concludes with authoritative teaching and miraculous healings that demonstrate the kingdom's arrival with power.
