Main Idea: When a person recognizes their inadequacy, they cry out to the only one who is sovereign, loving, and wise in every situation. Context: The Disicples Continually Reminded of Their Inadequacy. I. Why does the boy have ? (v. 37-39, 44) A. On the next day, Jesus and his three disciples left the mountain to meet the crowd and heal a sick boy. (v. 37) B. And behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out. (v.38-39) C. In the midst of our suffering and pain, we must believe that God is sovereign. D. No circumstance can frustrate God’s purpose for our lives. E. Jesus said to his disciples, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.” (v.) II. Why does fail to heal? (v. 40-41, 43-45) A. “And I begged your disciples to cast it out, but they could not.” (v. 40) B. Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you and bear with you?” (v. 41a) C. His disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” And he said to them, “This kind cannot be drive out by anything but prayer.” (Mark 9:28) D. “How Long must I be with you and put up with you?” (v. 41b) III. What can you learn from ? (v. 38, 42) A. Behold a man from the crowd cried out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only son.” (v. 38) B.They brought the boy to him. (Mark 9:20) C. He said to him, “If you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” (Mark 9:22) D. But they did not understand this saying. (v.45a) E. They wer afraid to ask him about this saying. (v.45b)
