Luke has spent a long period of his career working in professional Rugby League working with such teams as the Canberra Raiders, New Zealand Warriors and St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL. What is most fascinating is that despite an already stellar career in one sport Luke is actively seeking a brand new challenges by pursuing a career in an entirely different sport, Baseball. This is unprecedented conversation with someone who is currently navigating the highly competitive market of professional Baseball and Luke shares both his already incredible journey in high performance sport as well as what he is currently doing to both best prepare and position himself to one day obtaining his dream role in the MLB.Highlights from the episode…Luke began his career wanting to be a pilot but after the events of September 11 this propelled him down a different path, sport. The benefits on being domain specific early in your career, especially when you are clear of what you want to do.Soon after graduating he moved to the UK and secured a role with the UK defence force and shares a day in the life of a military physio. After the UK he moved to Canada to supports his wife’s dreams, but found it extremely difficult to secure a role in physio and shares the process of how to be registered as physio in Canada.Despite having 3 Uni degrees, Luke was forced to work in a cinema earning minimum wage for over a year, while waiting to be registered. After being registered, Luke shares how he eventually met the person who had a major influence on his approach to rehab. Luke’s Flywheel approach to rehab. The limitations of only asking your athlete to do, what you would do.Sports medicine is like the fashion industry & there are more similarities than we like to admit. “The best athletes take what they do in the gym onto the field”.
