Rond 1600 ontstaat er in Zwolle een kleine lutherse gemeenschap. Handel met het Oostzeegebied en de komst van Duitse soldaten brengen nieuwe mensen en ideeën naar de stad. Omdat alleen de gereformeerde kerk in het openbaar diensten mag houden, komen de lutheranen aanvankelijk bij elkaar in woonhuizen. In 1615 krijgt de groep haar eerste eigen predikant, Johannes Cremerius. Toch gaat het niet vanzelf. In 1649 bouwen de lutheranen een schuilkerk in de Koestraat, maar de overheid legt hun meteen beperkingen op. Kerkdiensten zijn verboden en wie de regels overtreedt, moet boetes betalen. Pas vanaf 1661 wordt er oogluikend meer vrijheid toegestaan, en kan de gemeente in rust groeien. In de 18e eeuw krijgt het gebouw steeds meer het uiterlijk van een echte kerk. Er komt een nieuw interieur, en in 1722 zelfs een prachtig orgel van de beroemde Hamburgse orgelbouwers Schnitger. Door de eeuwen heen maakt de gemeente wisselingen door, sluit het zich aan bij nieuwe verbanden en keert weer terug. Het kerkgebouw verandert mee, met verbouwingen in de 19e en 20e eeuw. In deze aflevering geeft Dite Husselman een inkijkje in deze bijzondere Zwolse Lutherse gemeente waar zelfs een van de beroemdste Nederlanders gedoopt werd.  Dite is gemeentelid en voormalig diaken bij de Lutherse kerk Zwolle en betrokken bij het project oral history  van het Luthers Museum.
