YOU'VE BEEN REJECTED! Not by me...but by someone Your first thought when seeing that line is like "Oh shit! What I do?" That initial panic, man. Gets to ya. We all hate rejection. It's not exactly fun. Whether you ask someone on a date and got turned down, got fired from a job, or even went through a break up, at some point you've come face to face with rejection. It hurts. But ya know what? It really ain't that bad. It's kind of like hot sauce, ya know? Maybe a bit too spicy at first, but eventually the burn is just part of the flavor...and you crave it. What I'm saying is the "burn" you feel from rejection is inevitable. I don't care how awesome you may be or think you are, rejection burns. But that rush of energy you feel from the burn can actually be quite satisfying (just like spicy food). It's actually a pre-wired instinct. Our ancestors needed a tribe to survive. Getting rejected meant certain death. You couldn't survive alone and you couldn't pass on your genes to future generations if you were rejected. So...we learned to FEAR rejection. That fear of rejection is literally pre-wired in our brains. Thanks ancestors! ;) Even in modern society where you can pretty easily survive solo, we still associate rejection with "I'M GUNNA DIE!" I mean, you may not be consciously thinking that, but that's where that feeling of uneasiness comes from. You're brain becomes super alert when rejected because it's trying to keep you alive. Look, you're not gonna die. Relax. Every successful person you know went through a shit load of rejection. In fact, I'd argue that the more you face rejection, the closer you are to success. Dr. Seuss was told he couldn't write. Steven Spielberg got turned down from film school. Harrison Ford was told he didn't have what it takes to be a star The list goes on. Point is, they didn't let rejection kill them (or their careers for that matter). Rejection is inevitable. Letting it stop you is not. That's something you choose. I made another episode today. You can reject listening to it. I'll accept that, but would appreciate it if you did read it. It's about the Lazy Method on Handling rejection. It's about remaining laid-back and at ease when in face of rejection. It's about rejecting rejection haha.
