from WURD Radio · host WURD Radio

Lynda Grace Black & Magda Martinez are artists who are the creators of “To Be Here”, a multi-day exhibition and storytelling performance, which will take place at Christ Church Neighborhood House (20 N. American Street, Philadelphia). The exhibition will take place from June 11th to 13th. TO BE HERE reflects on family journeys to Philadelphia, the realities of staying, and the resilience required to build a life here. TO BE HERE unfolded over many months of gathering, listening, and making through story gatherings. From these encounters, Black and Martinez wove together an art installation of and by the participants — a textured portrait of collective memory and cultural inheritance Through shared experiences of loss, transformation, and connection, participants offer a deeply personal and collective portrait of the city. Lynda and Magda join the show to further discuss the context of their exhibit, To Be Here.
