Mabuyane sacks Health MEC Gomba while Mbengashe will face disciplinary action
from AM Live on SAfm · host SABC News and Current Affairs
Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane, has announced that the former superintendent general of the provincial Health Department, Dr Thobile Mbengashe, will face disciplinary action - following the SIU's findings relating to last year's procurement of ambulance scooters intended to assist Covid19 patients. Speaking during a media briefing in Bisho, Mabuyane also announced that Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba has been relieved of her duties - after she was charged with corruption and fraud linked to the Nelson Mandela Funeral scandal. The alleged fraud amounts to 10-million rand that was siphoned from the Buffalo City Municipality, by flouting tender processes during the Mandela funeral in 2013. Mabuyane says Gomba will remain a member of the provincial legislature.
