Trump may have had the largest vote of any sitting president in history, but it wasn't enough to defeat a debilitated 40 year politician in the basement of his house who knew how to use machine politics. Machine politics aren't all bad, it just produces bloated bureaucracies. You're guaranteed a job if you're part of the machine. The machine always wins elections.
