On this episode, Fanci Nancy sits down with her best friend, Kashieka “Ki-Ki” Phillips, to discuss grief and loss from the COVID-19 Pandemic. This June and July we lost both of Ki-Ki’s parents in a three week span to COVID-19. During that time she also suffered from a miscarriage. The day this episode airs, November 19, 2020, would have been her mother’s birthday.  Join us we discuss these losses, how they affected her, working through grief with the help of a supportive organization, changes in her family dynamic, how we are attempting to cope with the upcoming holidays and more! Ki-ki and I will not only discuss coping with the passing of her mother and father from the pandemic, but also coping with job loss. We will also discuss struggling with grief during this pandemic after separating from my job in early July. Black Americans are infected with COVID-19 at nearly three times the rate of white Americans, according to a new document from the National Urban League. The report, based on data from Johns Hopkins University, also shows black Americans are twice as likely to die from the virus. How do we cope with the loss? How do we continue living our lives when we are so disproportionately affected? How can jobs, organizations, friends and family support the Black community during this time of unprecedented loss?
