Madison finds itself the accidental owner of land under the airport

The city of Madison thought it had cleanly transferred the airport and surrounding lands to Dane County more than half a century ago. But it turned out that it accidentally retained ownership of a fifty-foot wide strip on the property. The city moved one step closer to correcting the mistake when the Plan Commission unanimously backed the property transfer on Monday. The decision came in spite of public opposition, with some hoping that the land could be used as leverage to guide a planned parking expansion at the airport.
