Madres: The Film Based on the Eugenics Movement in the U.S.

from Gimme the Creeps · host Abigail & Daniela

The film Madres is directed by Ryan Zaragoza and depicts the experiences of a Mexican-American couple in the 1970s. The film's message is inspired by actual events that took place in the United States. Abi reads the synopsis and explanation of the plot from 5:01 to 11:20. The women discuss thoughts on the film and discuss where horror films may be heading when it comes to minorities and their fears.  Fears portrayed through surrealism and horror elements gives the audience the uneasiness of feeling out of place or unsafe which is often how minorities feel when facing racism. Abi pulls out her rusty science knowledge and shares evolutionary theories and genetics before introducing the Eugenics Movement in the United States.
