The Trump administration has “aggressively rolled back efforts across the federal government to combat human trafficking.”​ The State Department’s anti-trafficking office — the TIP office — lost more than 70% of its staff after internal restructuring.​ The Department of Labor’s international trafficking and child labor programs were shut down or defunded, wiping out grants and protections around the world.​ And agents who once hunted traffickers and child-exploitation rings have been reassigned to immigration enforcement instead.
