Maggie Lawson & Gluten-Free Wines!

from The Wine Situation · host Ellen Clifford

Maggie Lawson (Psych, Angel from Hell, Santa Clarita Diet) joins Shaughn and Ellen to whine about having celiac and how popularity of gluten-free diets has affected how seriously people take the disease. The Grape of the Week is Pinotage! A South African hybrid that has some...interesting tasting notes. After that everyone digs into both celiac disease. The gluten-free movement has made it easier for people with the auto-immune disease to eat out, but has lead to a lot of poking fun at the gluten-free-ers. Shaughn and Ellen pair it with a wine that gets no respect: Merlot! They are drinking a 2015 Chateau Godeau Ducarpe Sainte-Emilion Grand Cru! That's a damn fine Merlot. They explain the complex ranking system of wines in Bordeaux. It ain't as easy as A, B, C!  From there the conversation covers Dog TV and Clockwork Orange which gets ditched in favor of playing what's in the glass. Also pro tip? Look to Texas for some tasty Merlot. The lightning round covers old British terms for Bordeaux, what colors of wine are allowed in Saint-Emilion, and and the legend of a stone throne in the center of Saint-Emilion. Cheers!
