Maggots

Today's Daily Picture is of maggots, a continuation of Saturday's message on God's perfect provision for us. The book of Exodus describes the Israelites being delivered from slavery in Egypt, with Moses and his brother Aaron leading them to God's Promised Land. Chapter 16 tells us that in the middle of the second month of their freedom, whilst they are crossing the desert, the people are complaining that they were better off in Egypt. Are we not sometimes like that, not trusting in change? God then provides them with quail every evening and wafer bread every morning which they need to gather from the ground. God's instruction was to gather a specific amount per person per day. However, some people hoarded some of the bread for the next day but it was found to be full of maggots and beginning to stink. Why did they hoard? It could have been fear, not trusting in God's daily provision and/or wanting to be in control. In the Lord's Prayer we say, "Give us this day our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11). May we declare this every day and trust in God's timely and perfect provision.
