Magic

from Strange Things with Chris James · host Chris James

What is magic anyway? The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines magic as the use of means (such as charms or spells) believed to have supernatural power over natural forces or magic rites or incantations It is also an extraordinary power or influence seemingly from a supernatural source : something that seems to cast a spell : enchantment : the art of producing illusions by sleight of hand.Arthur C Clark said, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”When electricity was first being offered to the public back in the late 1800s most people were afraid of it likening it to magic. They could see a chunk of coal or a bottle of oil. Setting these a fire would produce heat and light, as well as smoke and toxic gasses. But people were comfortable with coal and oil thinking they knew what the light was being caused by.
